Toadstools ~ Mushrooms.



This super wet weather has caused a lot of mushrooms or toadstools to sprout up. The type shown in the pictures grows under our tall pine trees every year. That is the same fungus in the pictures but one picture shows the mushroom after it opened. There should be some tiny elves somewhere as this is the classic style that seems to be depicted in many books featuring the fictional characters. The yard has more water than has been there in years. It is just so wet and very soggy. The magic that we would like the most is for the heavy rains to stop for a while.

Standing Rock in Kent Ohio

Standing Rock is in the Cuyahoga River in Kent behind the Standing Rock Cemetery. When I was a child on Wolcott Avenue in Kent we would go in small groups riding our bikes or walking through the cemetery to see the large rock. We lived only a few blocks from the cemetery so it was a short trip. We never worried about going through the cemetery alone.  A bypass for the Cuyahoga River now flows around the dam on Main Street in Kent to speed up the river to improve the water quality. The level of the river has been cut down drastically because of the bypass. Ripples of water now flow over rocks where the river once was deep. It was deep enough years ago so that you could not see the rocks on the bottom.  Back then the water rose up under the jutting ledge near the top of the large stone. The Old School House in Peninsula Ohio

The old Boston Township schoolhouse in Peninsula, Ohio has been nicely preserved though it seemed a rather depressing looking place as we passed it yesterday. It was cloudy at the time and some granular snow was falling. The old building is now used for town functions and a great contradance takes place there from time to time. It makes me happy to see the preservation of the historic old buildings. I'm certain this school holds many memories, good and bad, for the people who attended school there.

Robert E. Wood A Talented Artist from Kent Ohio

Robert Wood, artist from Kent, Ohio, died of a heart attack last week. He will be remembered on Saturday at a Memorial service. If you lived in Kent you probably remember him. Robert had the nickname FU BOB. He earned this label with his odd behavior in public. It is said that he arrived in Kent in 1964 but it seems like I remember him as being there forever. His long unkempt hair and beard were unmistakable. He would stand on a curb and repeat tapping his toe into the road and back out over and over before crossing. If anyone cared to stop and stare they got the double barreled middle finger salute and the FU bomb laid on them. Hopefully this highly educated individual will be remembered for his brilliant mind and outstanding artwork rather than being a bit different. We salute you Robert.
