A Cloudy Snowy Day ~ Think About Bright Things



Yes, It did snow today from time to time. It has been such a mild Winter and Spring that it really doesn't matter to me. The grass is green and the blossoms on this old wild crab apple tree are very pretty. There are a few of these old trees in the woods behind the house. Little hard green apples appear on these trees in the Fall. They are bitter to the taste. If enough could be found they would probably make good crab apple jelly.

The Old School House in Peninsula Ohio

The old Boston Township schoolhouse in Peninsula, Ohio has been nicely preserved though it seemed a rather depressing looking place as we passed it yesterday. It was cloudy at the time and some granular snow was falling. The old building is now used for town functions and a great contradance takes place there from time to time. It makes me happy to see the preservation of the historic old buildings. I'm certain this school holds many memories, good and bad, for the people who attended school there.

Blue Skies ~ Time To Clean the Gutters

A job that keeps coming back! A very wet yard! There have been very few days this month that it has not rained. The yard is saturated and makes a squishing sound no matter where we walk. Russ has cleaned the gutters in the rain in the past but they have been let go for a month or longer. It was time to muck them out again. The wet slimy gunk was flying from his gloved hands as he circled the house. Fortunately our gutters are not up high. The forecast for rain every day next week is not what we really wanted to hear but weather is something we can't control.  Done for this time!

Transplanting Ajuga for Ground Cover ~ A Wet Yard

There seems to be a great deal of the Ajuga ground cover growing in our yard this year. The plants are taller and more lush than usual due to the amount of rain that has fallen. Today was a good day to transplant some of the ground cover plants to other places in the yard. The ground is saturated so the plants are easy to remove from the ground and the soft dirt yields easily to the shovel for transplanting. A couple of dry days with sunshine should dry some things out but the picture below shows the tracks from the old yard tractor. Only some areas of the yard are being cut off today. Perhaps these areas will dry off more before the next rain falls. The grass is getting quite high in some spots.
