A Brush Pile~What is the Significance?

We place brush and leaves from the yard into piles in the wooded areas behind our house. The piles can provide important cover for wildlife. The decomposed matter adds to the richness of the soil. Rabbits don't seem as common in our area as they used to be because of increases in the coyote population. Chipmunks, birds and other small animals use these natural hiding places. I did scare a rabbit from the pile one day while taking a walk in that area. I was glad to see that it was being used as intended.
